President Museveni Gives sh18m to Kiteezi Landfill Tragedy Victims

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni through his State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Lillian Aber has today delivered sh18m to the Kiteezi Landfill tragedy victims.

Minister Aber said that though at first it had been reported that 23 people survived the Kiteezi tragedy with injuries, through a thorough scrutiny, the team realized that it was only 18 people.

The survivors have therefore received one million shillings each to help them with the relevant medication and care.

Aber noted that the sh18m comes on top of the sh5m which the President ordered to be given to the families that lost their loved ones from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The minister delivered the package on Wednesday and thanked the security team, the RDC, local leaders and the community members for the cooperation and unity rendered during the trying moment.

Through her X handle, Aber has reported as follows;

“It was reported that 23 people got injured during the Kiteezi catastrophe, however, after intense verification, we discovered that the exact number was 18. So today, I handed over 18Million Shillings to all injured persons. This money is from His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda @KagutaMuseveni in addition to the 5Million shillings being given to the Families of those who lost their lives during the tragic incident. I thank the Security team, RDC, Local leaders and the community for unity exhibited during this trying moment.@OPMUganda”
