Family Fails to Repatriate Remains of Former AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi’s Father-in-Law – Buried in UK Three Months After His Death

A Ugandan-British national, Bikumbi Ruzindana (88) who passed on in the United Kingdom, on April 15, 2024, has finally been laid to rest.

According to the family, his burial had been planned to take place in Rubaare village, Ntungamo district, while others wanted him laid to rest in Rugaaga-Bukanga, in Isingiro district. However, all these plans were reversed when they failed to repatriate his remains back to Uganda due to unforeseen circumstances.

About the burial:

Ruzindana, was laid to rest on Monday, July 01, 2024, at High Wood cemetery, Low Wood Road, Bulwell, in Nottingham.

Before his burial, there was a church service at 7 Triumph Road Lenton Nottingham NG 72 AY, at 10:00am.

Ruzindana, a renowned veterinary medic is the father of the controversial woman, Christine Mbabazi of Lungujja, in Rubaga Division, in Kampala, who was arrested by security in connection to the murder of the late Andrew Felix Kaweesi, a former Police Spokesperson.

In a letter dated May 21, 2024, Mbabazi claims she wrote to President Yoweri Museveni, seeking for his approval before she could fly to the UK to prepare for the repatriation of her father’s remains pending his send-off.

“Being an elder daughter, the family had requested me to steer the repatriation and the burial processes of the deceased whose remains have been in the morgue in the UK for three consecutive months,” she said.

Who is Ruzindana?

While he was still living in Uganda, Bikumbi operated in Mbarara and Isingiro as a veterinary doctor, and was the head of veterinary laboratory from 1970-1978. At the time of his death, he was living in Nottingham, UK, with his second wife (Seraphine Bikumbi) and their children.

Before his first wife late Kansinda Mukanyondekwe passed on, in 1993, the couple by then had eight children; five girls and three boys. However, five of them later passed on; three boys and two girls.

It is alleged that by then, Ruzindana had relocated from Mbarara to Masisi village, located in Goma Province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Christine Mbabazi, is among the three surviving girls whom the late Ruzindana produced with his first wife, Mukanyondekwe (the late), others include; Lillian and Jane Umutesi, who later relocated to the UK.

According to the family, when Ruzindana went to the United Kingdom, in 1998, he later sired five other children with his new wife (Seraphina) whom he met in the UK. They are two boys and three girls. “Dad was taken to the UK by our sister, Jane Umutesi for treatment after developing some health complications, unfortunately, in 2012, our sister succumbed to kidney cancer,” the family said.

Out of the total of nine surviving children (two boys and seven girls), it is only Mbabazi who reside in Uganda.

The deceased was the official veterinary doctor for Museveni dad’s herds of cattle (Amos Kaguta).
