December 31, 2023 will be a day to remember for the hundreds of children who turned up as the administrators of an 18-year-old Global Junior School Mukono unveiled a new campus at Kyaliwajjala, in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district.

The children ranging between the ages of two-ten years experienced a lot of fun making with a variety of modern play kits both outside and inside the classrooms.

The play kits ranged between bouncing castles, swimming pool, swings, trampoline, chair dance, ropes, balls, among others.

Ruth Akankwasa, one of the children who enjoyed playing on the children’s play kits said she was seeing some of the kits they found here on TV, adding that it was such a nice experience finding them and playing on them physically.

“I am so happy that mummy brought me here today. She also agreed to have me start my Top Class next year from this good school,” said the five-year-old Akankwasa.

Racheal Namaganda, a grandmother who turned up with some of her grandchildren said she is a neighbour to this school who cannot miss having some of her grandchildren below the Top Class level start from their right at the start of this year’s academic year.

Namaganda said she has keenly watched pupils of Global Junior School ever on TV doing wonders in a number of disciplines including exhibiting good academic grades when Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results are released by Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), during co-curricular activities, among others.

“When they told me it was Global Junior School which was extending its services to my neighbourhood, I passionately welcomed it,” she revealed.

Everest Bahanga is another parent who had turned up with two of his children including a boy and a girl whom he said had already been recruited.

“I have never been to Global Junior School Mukono though I have been hearing about it. From the quality of modern school arrangement I saw at this campus, I freely accepted to have my two children join for their infant education,” said Behanga.

Eva Kabunga, the headteacher Global Junior School Kyaliwajjala.

A few meters after branching off to Kira road at Kyaliwajjala junction on the right hand side, opposite Total Petrol Station, is Global Junior School Kyaliwajjala Campus, ready to take off in January 2024.

Eva Kabunga, the Global Junior School Kyaliwajjala headteacher says that they started recruiting pupils and the exercise is on-going. Kabunga adds that the school is open from Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm.

“I am glad to have been among the winning team behind the success of Global Junior School Mukono for the 18 years we have been in the field of education. Therefore taking up this new Campus as the team leader, trust me we are to produce quality. Entrust us with your children,” she said.

Kabunga emphasizes that for many years as  stakeholders in education, they realised that children learn more while playing.

“Initially, as we put emphasis on the Early Childhood Development (ECD) learning, starting from Day Care, Baby Class, Middle to Top Class, we had a reason to invest heavily in the play kits for the children,” she said.

She reveals that when children get ample time to play, they not only find fun but also get physical development.

Because the school is to handle young children, Kabunga says they have stocked modern learning materials which they are going to use while teaching the young ones. They include smart boards which teachers use without dusty chalks and dusters.

Janepher Namyalo, a teacher, said they also have a qualified team of chefs who are ready to handle a balanced diet of the children.

Namyalo said that the school is also free from dust, assuring the parents of a healthy environment for their children.
