Workers Remain Jobless as Dembe FM Opts for Restructuring

A number of employees under the Nation Media Group’s Dembe FM are now jobless following a decision by their employer to scrap off all on-air programs until further notice.

The move aims to align the station with current media trends. All on-air presenters have been laid off, and the station plans to return in January with a fresh line-up of young, energetic, and vibrant presenters to boost revenue.

Rumors suggest that only the Talk & Talk Show team will secure spots in the revamped Dembe FM, while others will seek opportunities elsewhere.

Initially, instead of considering selling the station due to lack of profits, NMG chose restructuring instead. The goal is to remove ‘old’ presenters perceived as not adding value.

Upon returning in January, the station will introduce new shows and presenters, scrapping many existing programs.

The restructuring involves having fewer on-air presenters working longer hours, aiming for easier maintenance.

This approach will extend to other NMG media houses like NTV & Spark TV, where several on-air and less valuable off-air employees will also face layoffs.
