NRM’s Mugisha wins Hoima District Chairperson by-election

The Returning Officer Hoima District Merab Kasande has declared NRM’s Mugisha Uthman Mubaraka winner of the by-election for Hoima District chairperson.

Mugisha has won the election with 18,353 votes beating his closest rival Muhumuza Vicente Savana, the NRM’s leaning independent candidate who has garnered 12,020 votes. Other candidates have scored as follows,  Aguuda Moses of the National Unity Platform (NUP) 3.972 votes, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC’s) Musinguzi Patrick and Mugume Lennox an Independent who have both scored 271 and 179 votes respectively.

A total Number of 34,795 votes have been cast, indicating a very low voter turn up.

Mugisha takes on the mantle from his fallen father Kadir Karungi who was until his time of death, in a deadly accident, was the Hoima District chairperson.  Karungi died in a motor accident on Bukomero-Mityana district road to Hoima on March 17, 2023.
