Gunmen Kill One Teacher; Injure Security Guard in Two Schools Raid

The Police in Naggalama Police Division are investigating the incident in which alleged gunmen raided two secondary schools in Kabimbiri parish in Kasawo Town Council, Mukono district during the wee hours of Saturday Morning. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Patrick Onyango has confirmed that one teacher, Joseph Miiro who has been working as the male students’ warden at St. Andrew Kaggwa Senior Secondary School was killed during the raid.

Onyango says that also a night watchman, Bernard Ajobe was seriously assaulted and that he is currently admitted at Kayunga Hospital. The gunmen also raided Latifah Mixed Senior School where they stole an unidentified number of computers.

He told New Vision that the gunmen raided St. Andrew Kaggwa at around 1:00am and broke into several offices including the Bursar’s office, headteacher’s and that of the deputy headteacher; stealing students’ pocket Money of unspecified amount, a Samsung mobile phone, two desktop computers of Boston make and a Dell laptop.

Onyango said that Police were notified and responded though it was a bit late when the assailants had already fled to an unknown destination.

The victim, Ajobe was rushed to Kayunga Hospital for medical attention whereas the body of Miiro was taken to Kayunga Hospital Mortuary for Post-mortem examination.

Police is said to have recovered some exhibits including an iron bar and the panga which the thugs used to terrorise Miiro and Ajobe.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Joab Wabwire together with the team of police detectives from Naggalama Police Division visited the scene of crime.

A number of students, especially the female students, fainted following the shocking incident which left their geography teacher dead.

They were however attended to and managed by the school nurse in the sick bay.

Kabimbiri Parish Priest, Fr. Ignatius Kaita during the mass he led with the intention to calm down the school community which was gripped in fear decried the over increasing insecurity in their location.

Fr. Kaita said the same thugs have over the time been breaking into the parish and stealing both cash and property but they have never been arrested by Police.

The school headteacher, Rose Carolyn Namukwaya said Police had beefed up their security and therefore, assured parents that their children were safe.

Last week on Monday March 20, also unidentified thugs broke into Kasawo Senior Secondary School and they critically injured two security guards before stealing three computers and sh63m.

According to the deputy Police spokesman in charge of Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire, by Saturday, they had not yet arrested any one attached to that incident.

Also unidentified gunmen were last week reported to have raided Nswanjere Junior Seminary where they assaulted Reverend Fathers and stolen property. In Luweero district, the same gang of thieves recently broke into Kazinga Senior Secondary School and Dove Educaation Centre.
